Move over glass skin, there’s a new K-beauty trend in town. The ‘glass skin’ aesthetic – that is, a high shine, almost reflective skin glow – has become mainstream around the globe since emerging in the 2010s. From hydrogel sheet masks and snail mucin, to the double-cleanse and layering essences, the social media-friendly skin care goal of glowy skin has spawned products, routines and micro-trends aplenty.

However, overcomplicated routines (sometimes doing more harm than good) and products designed for surface shine are now making way for those focused on longer-lasting skin health for a more lit-from-within glow.

“While glass skin is known for its ultra dewy, almost mirror-like finish, bloom skin is about creating a softer and healthy looking radiance,” Dr. Christine Hall, aesthetic doctor and Korean skin care expert, tells Cosmetics Business. “The skin is not meant to look wet or overly glossy, instead the goal is skin that looks naturally luminous and plump.”

The ethos of bloom skin, says Hall, is the underlying skin health producing a natural glow.

“Rather than relying on lots of products to create surface shine, the focus is on strengthening the skin barrier so the complexion looks hydrated and resilient,” she says. “It is often described as allowing the skin to ‘bloom’ from within.”

Google Trend searches for ‘bloom skin’ have increased by 800% over the past year, and ‘bloom skin care’ is a breakout trend with searches up 5000% to the year ending July 2026.
