Asia Pacific beauty market pivots to ‘skinspan’ – Mintel
The Asia Pacific beauty and personal care industry is undergoing a fundamental shift as consumers increasingly prioritise long-term health, preventative care, and longevity over traditional cosmetic aesthetics, says Mintel.

According to new research by Mintel in its ‘APAC Beauty and Personal Care Landscape 2026’ report, the region is being redefined by a consumer desire for control and self-optimization.
Rather than seeking quick fixes or anti-ageing remedies, proactive consumers are looking for science-backed solutions that support how they look, feel, and age over time.
Central to this transformation is the emerging concept of ‘skinspan’—a movement focused on extending long-term skin health, barrier resilience, and vitality.
Mintel data reveals that global face and neck skin care launches featuring longevity claims rose from 1% in 2022 to 1.7% in 2024.
Prevention has become a core driver, particularly among younger demographics; 72% of Thai Gen Z consumers report taking proactive steps for their skin's future appearance.
“Skinspan will only resonate if brands translate longevity into visible, functional, and well-evidenced skin outcomes,” notes the report.
As functional beauty moves beyond overtly clinical positioning, a "biotech-natural" model is taking shape.
Consumers are demanding high performance, but they are also heavily scrutinizing ingredient familiarity, gentleness, and sustainability.
Globally, skin care launches boasting botanical or natural alternative claims doubled from 13% in 2020 to 26% in 2025.
In India, 31% of adults who research ingredients before purchasing favour products with trending components.
In South Korea, 30% of women aged 45 and older say new ingredients or claims encourage them to pay full price.
While established actives like caffeine (for dark circles) and niacinamide (for tone correction) remain industry anchors, momentum is building for multi-peptide formulations and smarter natural alternatives that signal scientific backing without sacrificing approachability.
Mintel also sees body care as having major growth potential with sleep, stress and metabolic change standing out as important territories for future beauty innovation.
A significant driver of this shift is the rising awareness of metabolic health, notably the widespread use of GLP-1 medications for weight management.
Rapid body changes associated with these treatments are creating new beauty need states—most notably concerns around skin laxity and rebound effects.
However, Mintel cautions brands against focusing solely on weight loss. Instead, the opportunity lies in recognizing how metabolic health intertwines with sleep, stress, and longevity to create holistic needs that consumers want to manage early on.
Demand for stress-relief solutions and products that connect sleep health with longevity science is growing rapidly, it adds.
